Austrian Airlines sold 41.6% of their shares to Lufthansa, with the agreement that Austrian Airlines will remain a legally independant company with its head office in Austria and its own brand, crew and fleet.  This partnership with Lufthansa makes Austrian Airlines a leading carrier in Central and Eastern Europe.  This affiliation between Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa offers improved access to international passenger flows, joint international marketing, stability and opportunities for the Vienna hub.
