Many airlines are offering new flights to more remote areas of the world. Delta is now expanding their services to Africa with flights to Liberia. They plan to start offering flights out of Atlanta to Monrovia, Libera; with a stop at Sal Island, Cape Verde. Pending approval, this new route will begin in June of 2009.
Delta, along with five other carriers, American, Northwest, Continental, United and US Airways, are looking to service Russia with new flights. Russia agreed to the resumption of third-country code-sharing services with the six U.S. carriers. With an open-sky agreement and a code-sharing agreement, Russia can form an alliance with U.S. domestic carriers to help provide better flight schedules and ground arrangements for travelers.
