This is great news for New Orleans, which has been slow to return back to normal since the 2005 hurricane. The New Orlean's airport has suffered $30 million in damages during the storm, and the return of AeroMexico will give the airport the ability to comeback. Since 2005, they have been running at around 80% flight capacity, down from 160 flights per day to 130. AeroMexico flights will begin July 6, 2009.
For the first time since Hurricane Katrina, AeroMexico will be offering non-stop flights to Mexico City from New Orleans. AeroMexico is Mexico's largest airline. The flights will then continue on from Mexico City to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The two-hour flight will operate six times a week and seat 50 passengers.
