Airlines Now Charging for Individual Services

Posted by Heather Terry at 3:31 PM 2008 Newsletters | Air Travel

Airlines have now begun "unbundling" their services, meaning that not all services may come with the ticket price.  Instead of raising ticket prices, the airlines will charge for extra services such as meals & drinks, and also for checked luggage.  The airlines claim they will use this money to help offset the cost of jet fuel and to help boost revenue.

I have to say that airlines charging for checked luggage is an outrage. The bottom line is that they make money off the passengers ticket sales but our luggage is becoming an inconvenience to them because it is not a money maker. Next time your sitting by the window in the airport notice the the luggage being loaded in the back of the plane and the steel containers being loaded in the front of the plane. The containers are the paying freight that the airline is making money from. My opinion is that airlines need to decide if they are going to be a passenger service or a cargo hauler.
