This city has a lot of history to fit into a short trip - more than 2000 years to be specific - but this day tour will give you a great taste of this cultural center. Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, & Schubert all helped shape this "City of Music." So, we highly recommend that you make some time to enjoy one of the many concerts offered.
Feel the beat of Brazil! Take part in a Brazilian dance class or a capoeira class. Class can be private or with others. Length of time can be tailored to your interest. No experience is necessary, only a positive attitude & willingness to learn!
Test your culinary skills at a half-day Brazilian cooking class. Start off the morning by visiting a local supermarket to learn about some of the ingredients you will use & then take part in a class to cook a traditional three-course Brazilian meal. Afterward, you will be able to eat your creation for lunch. Water & soft drinks are served during the meal.

From your hotel, travel to the Tijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in the world. Ascend the mountains by jeep for impressive views of the city and sea below. There will be a short hike in the forest and then we are off to Grumari Beach, located in the western part of Rio. It is more isolated than most beaches and is regarded as one of the most beautiful in Rio. Enjoy some free time there and purchase a snack at one of the kiosks. Then head to Pepino Beach to watch the hang gliders float from the mountains to land on the beach before returning to the hotel.

The Botanical Gardens of Rio de Janeiro are one the most impressive botanical gardens in the world. There is a special area for 600 species of orchids, 400 species of cactus, bromelias, medicinal plants & an impressive pathway of imperial palms that tower above. With all of the trees, the gardens are a cool sanctuary from the warm summers of Rio.
Visit the hillside neighborhood of Santa Teresa, known for its quaint shops, architecture and local artists. Take a guided walk on the neighborhood's main street, residential areas & stop at the Parque das Ruinas for views of the bay & the city below. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant that specializes in cuisine from the interior of Brazil.
Explore the historic downtown area with a guide who specializes in the history of Rio de Janeiro. See Praça XV (November 15 Square), the former palace of the Imperial family & learn about their arrival to Rio 200 years ago. Walk the narrow brick streets & see some of the historical churches & buildings of downtown. Stop at the famous Confeteiria Colombo, a historic tea house, where you can purchase a pastry & coffee. From there, go to the National Historic Museum to learn more about the history of Brazil.
