There are so many ways to make an impact in the lives of the Nicaraguan people because the need is so great. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The 34% of the population who have jobs earn an average of only $800 per year. Teams can conduct projects focused on feeding & clothing, orphan care, arts & education, construction, sports & more.
Education is critical to helping Nicaraguans improve their financial situation, & literacy is a key component. Twenty percent of the Nicaraguan population is illiterate. But there is so much more your group can share. Technical skills are important for those in the work force & the arts can be taught to younger children who would probably never be exposed to those luxuries.
Sixty percent of the Nicaraguan population is 14 years of age or younger. These children are in desperate need of strong role models. Sports is an excellent way to teach team work, leadership skills, & to give the children confidence in themselves. Groups can choose from basketball to soccer, volleyball to baseball, & everything in between.
