Want to make a difference, experience culture first hand, & discover Tanzanian wildlife up-close? This 14-day tour is filled with many opportunities to do so! You’ll spend four full days assisting the staff of a local baby home by caring for young, abandoned & orphaned children. Learn about the ongoing efforts & visit local organizations dedicated to helping adolescent & adult women. And don’t forget your camera – as you’ll roam the plains of the Serengeti, where the Great Migration of wildebeests takes place. 


  • Arusha Baby Home – Spend four full days volunteering at a facility for young children. Change diapers, feed, bathe, & interact with abandoned & orphaned infants & toddlers.
  • Maasai Community Experience – Shadow a midwife during her visits to homes in the community.
  • Arusha National Park – Discover the wildlife by canoe & 4 x 4 safari vehicle.
  • Serengeti – Location where the Great Migration of wildebeests takes place.
  • Enjoy some midday meals in the bush

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha

Arrive at the airport, & transfer to your accommodation at a local baby home. Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening. 

Day 2: Arusha

This morning, learn more about the baby home project during a brief orientation. Take a tour of the facility, & assist with feeding the infants & young children afterward. Enjoy lunch with the other volunteers & the staff. Spend the afternoon assisting the staff with various activities & duties. 

Day 3: Arusha

Spend the day volunteering at the local baby home. Volunteer activities may include changing diapers, bathing, & spending time interacting with the children.

Day 4: Arusha

Spend the day volunteering at the local baby home.

Day 5: Arusha

Spend the day volunteering at the local baby home.

Day 6: Arusha

Spend the day volunteering at the local baby home.

Day 7: Arusha

Visit a local organization that conducts efforts in women development, including education & disease awareness. You’ll sit in on a lecture while at the facility. After lunch, visit a local clinic. 

Day 8: Arusha

After breakfast, you’ll head to an organization for young women. Upon arrival, attend an orientation meeting. This afternoon you’ll participate in leading workshops. Workshop topics include hygiene & child care.

Day 9: Arusha

Travel to Arusha National Park to enjoy its spectacular wildlife. This experience is unique, as you’ll observe the flora & fauna from a canoe. Enjoy lunch in the bush today. Afterward, hop in a 4 x 4 safari vehicle, & take off on an exciting game drive.  

Day 10: Arusha – Karatu

Leave Arusha this morning, & head to a Maasai community situated in Karatu. Here you’ll have the opportunity to meet with a local midwife. Enjoy lunch. Afterward, shadow the midwife during her afternoon visits to homes within the communities. 

Day 11: Karatu – Ngorongoro – Serengeti

Discover the natural wonders found within the Ngorongoro Crater. Enjoy a game drive, followed by lunch beside the hippo pools. This afternoon you’ll have another opportunity to observe some of the area’s many mammal species on a game drive. Native mammals include wildebeest, jackals, zebras, lions, & rhinos. Arrive in Serengeti National Park before dusk. Relax as you admire the sun set this evening. 

Day 12: Serengeti

Today you will set out on a game drive, with a possible chance to observe the great migration in action. 

Day 13: Serengeti – Ngorongoro – Arusha

Before breakfast, enjoy a safari game drive, & watch the sun come up (optional). Observe impalas, elephants, leopards, & other wildlife on a morning game drive after breakfast. Have lunch in the bush, & head back to Arusha afterward. On the way back, you may choose to stop at the Olduvai Gorge paleoanthropological site. Enjoy dinner & an overnight stay in Arusha. 

Day 14: Arusha – USA

Spend the morning at your leisure. Optional activities include a tour of the Cultural Heritage Center & a trip to check out a local recycling project. Later today, transfer to the airport, & board return flight home.
