This 17-day tour invites you to truly experience Vietnamese culture. It goes far beyond sightseeing, with hands-on activities & volunteer projects. You’ll enjoy homestays, learn basic Vietnamese, cruise on the Mekong River, & visit a floating market! Workshops will also be held throughout the tour, where you will make pottery, lanterns, grass mats, & traditional Vietnamese food. Volunteer projects include planting trees at a local school & teaching orphaned children.

  • Hanoi – Take a pedicab ride through the city. See the Temple of Literature & the Ngoc Son Temple.
  • Da Nang – Volunteer at a local children’s village.
  • Tra Que – Learn how to fertilize gardens with seaweed.
  • Vietnamese – Learn basic Vietnamese throughout the tour.
  • Hoi An – Learn how to make toys, & teach basic English lessons at a local orphanage.
  • Lantern Workshop – Learn how to make a silk & bamboo lantern.
  • Mekong Delta – Visit the floating market in Cai Be, harvest rice, visit a Bonsai gardener, & more.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi

Arrive at the airport, & transfer to the hotel. Enjoy time to relax before heading to a local restaurant for your welcome dinner. 

Day 2: Hanoi – Mai Chau

Discover the lush, green landscapes of the Mai Chau valley today. You’ll relax for part of the adventure as you drive through the valley, & later you will admire it by bicycle, or on foot. This evening, enjoy a unique dining experience, as dinner is held at a local’s house. Afterward, enjoy live entertainment performed by Thai residents of the Mai Chau valley. 

Day 3: Mai Chau

One of the locals will prepare you breakfast this morning at their house. After enjoying another unique cultural experience, head to Mo Luong Cave to explore the underground. Take a hike to today’s next stop, H’mong Village, & learn about the villager’s professions & traditions. Enjoy a picnic-style lunch today in the valley, & dinner & an overnight stay at a local’s house. 

Day 4: Mai Chau – Hanoi

Return to the capital city this morning. Take a pedicab ride through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, & visit other famed sites on a guided tour of the city. Highlights include the Turtle Tower, the Temple of Literature, & the Ngoc Son Temple. After the tour, spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 5: Hanoi – Da Nang – Hoi An

This morning, transfer to the airport, & board domestic flight to Da Nang. Upon arrival, head to Hoi An. Enjoy a half-day guided tour of the city. Take a stroll through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ancient Town, & learn about its multicultural heritage. Enjoy delicious Vietnamese cuisine this evening at a local restaurant. 

Day 6: Hoi An – Da Nang – Hoi An

Return to Da Nang to spend the day at the local children’s village. You’ll work alongside the village staff, teaching & leading fun & educational activities for the children. Return to Hoi An for dinner & an overnight stay. 

Day 7: Hoi An – Tra Que – Hoi An

Head to Tra Que village this morning by car or bicycle. Learn how the locals fertilize their garden with seaweed, & help them complete the process! Afterward, you’ll assist with making the midday meal. Enjoy a short time of rest after lunch. Return to the garden for the remainder of the afternoon. Travel back to Hoi An for dinner & an overnight stay. 

Day 8: Hoi An

Spend the day at the local orphanage. You’ll teach the children basic English, & they will help teach you Vietnamese! Prepare the midday meal with the staff, & assist in serving the children. Other highlights of the orphanage visit include learning how the children & staff make toys! 

Day 9: Hoi An – Tra Kieu – Hoi An

Make a traditional Vietnamese lantern today, made out of silk & bamboo. You’ll also discover Hoi An’s ancient village before lunch. Later today, head to a local school in Tra Kieu to plants trees on the lawn. Return to Hoi An, & spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 10: Hoi An

Attend a culinary workshop this morning at a local restaurant. At the end of the workshop, you will get to eat the traditional foods you made. Afterward, learn basic Vietnamese during a language lesson. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure.  

Day 11: Hoi An – Thanh Ha – Hoi An

Sail the Thu Bon River after breakfast this morning, heading to Thanh Ha village. Here you will learn about the pottery culture during a workshop, which includes making a piece of pottery. Return to Hoi An for lunch. Afterward, enjoy another Vietnamese language lesson. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 12: Hoi An – Da Nang – Ho Chi Minh City

Transfer to the airport in Da Nang, & board domestic flight to Ho Chi Minh City. After checking in to your hotel, discover the French Colonial quarter. You’ll admire the Notre-Dame Basilica & the beautiful design of the city’s Opera House. This evening, cruise on the Saigon River while enjoying a traditional Vietnamese dinner.   

Day 13: Ho Chi Minh City – Cu Chi – Ho Chi Minh City

Learn about the Vietnam War today during your visit to Cu Chi. You will see Cu Chi’s underground tunnels, which served as protection from explosives used during the war. After lunch, return to Ho Chi Minh City, & spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 14: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be – Vinh Long

Travel to Cai Be this morning. The town, situated in the Mekong Delta area, is famous for its floating market. Upon arrival, begin today’s cruise on the Mekong River. The first stop will be in Vinh Long, where a Bonsai gardener will have a traditional lunch prepared for you. The second stop will be at your overnight accommodation. You will stay with one of the locals of the Mekong Delta region, in their house on the Mekong River.  

Day 15: Mekong Delta

Experience the essence of the Mekong Delta culture today. Learn how to harvest rice, visit a school in one of the local villages, assist with building a bridge, work in an orchard gathering fruit, & make your own grass mat. 

Day 16: Mekong Delta – Vinh Long – Ho Chi Minh City

Head to Vinh Long this morning by boat. Upon arrival, transfer to Ho Chi Minh City. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 17: Ho Chi Minh City – USA

Transfer to the airport, & board return flight home.
