Although the island of Sri Lanka is graced with natural beauty, fascinating wildlife, & a variety of ethnic groups, it is also stricken with poverty & undesirable living conditions for some of its residents. This unfortunate reality brings the need for hope & assistance. Volunteers can make efforts to help residents of Colombo, the largest populated city in Sri Lanka, & other areas nearby through a variety of specialized projects. A life-changing opportunity awaits you, whether it’s participating in activities to boost women’s self-esteem, teaching English, or helping to preserve the natural beauty & wildlife of the country. Note: We have grouped available projects into a broad category based on the scope of their work. However, many of these programs overlap in their overall goals & objectives or go beyond the work listed here. The Turtle care, conservation & research project in Sri Lanka offers a special opportunity to support local efforts aimed at protecting the marine turtles. The program will include promoting necessary awareness campaigns through interaction with both tourists & local community members. Additionally, participants will assist local authorities guard over & protect particular beach areas that have been identified as turtle nesting grounds.
In this program, open to both Biology & non-Biology majors, we’ll explore the country’s ecology & evolutionary patterns. Excursions will include safaris in the Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater, visits to Olduvai Gorge where Australopithecus once roamed & ancient rituals with the Maasai Tribe. Join us as we experience one of the most ecologically exciting & evolutionary significant sites in the world!
The King of Thailand has created a marine project at Kung Krabaen Bay, & you are invited to join the volunteer efforts! Educate the Thai people about the marine wildlife that calls the bay home, participate in conservation projects, survey the bay on a diving adventure, & participate in other exciting volunteer tasks. You’ll also enjoy guided tours in Bangkok! Maximum of 6 participants
This exciting trip invites you to discover Thai city & countryside! Tour famous temples in the capital city of Bangkok & in Chiang Mai. Take a three day trek outside of the city, where you will observe wildlife, go rafting, & more! Your adventure is complete with a volunteer project in one of Thailand’s hill-tribe villages. The Moo Baan Dek Children’s Village is a haven for Thai children in need of shelter, food, education, & care. And you can volunteer to make a difference in the lives of these children. Help the staff farm the land, & teach the children how to grow vegetables! Lead workshops on arts & crafts & cooking, teach the children about your own culture, & much more. You’ll also enjoy staying with a host family for an evening in a village in Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province, & visit famous sites in Bangkok! Maximum of 6 participants
