Overview

Make a difference in the lives of the children attending Red Hill pre-schools in Cape Town, South Africa. There are many opportunities for volunteers within these schools, which originally served as shipping containers. The program also features after-school activities for volunteers to participate in. 

Minimal recommended length of stay is 10 days. 

Specialized Program: Education & Community Work

Opportunities for volunteers include:
  • Teaching introductory lessons (i.e. shapes, colors, letters, numbers)
  • Assisting with special needs children at the school
  • Conducting fun & educational activities (i.e. games, arts & crafts)
  • Assisting the staff by preparing midday meals for the children
  • Cleaning & fulfilling maintenance needs within the classrooms

Specialized Program: Sports & Community Work

This program is set in a primary school within the area. Volunteer opportunities include: 
  • Renovating & painting buildings
  • Assisting with physical education classes
  • Helping lead the after-school program
  • Helping children with special needs in their classes

Optional Pre/Post-Project Tours

Cape Town – Visit Robben Island to see where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Tour the Western Cape wine region, & take the rotating cable-car ride up to Table Mountain. 
Safari Adventure – Explore Pilanesberg Park on foot, in game drive vehicles, & by hot-air balloon. 
Soweto – Depart from Johannesburg on a day tour to Soweto to discover township life.
