Overview

A unique opportunity to volunteer in communities abroad & discover Kenya’s fascinating wildlife & natural beauty awaits you. During this 8-night trip you’ll: assist with activities at a local children’s orphanage & an internally displaced persons’ camp, hear the sounds & feel the rhythm of traditional tribal dances at a live cultural performance, observe zebras & buffalos as they bask under the warm African sun, hike up a dormant volcano, & more.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi

Welcome to warm & sunny Nairobi. Arrive at the airport, & transfer to the hotel. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 2: Nairobi

Learn about Kenya’s history & culture while visiting Nairobi’s National Museum. Next, enjoy a trip to the Karen Blixen Museum, the former coffee plantation & home of the late, Danish author. Blixen became famous world-wide for her novel “Out of Africa,” which features memoirs of her time spent living in Africa. After the tour, return to the hotel, & enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 3: Nairobi – Rift Valley – Nairobi

This morning, attend an informative talk on Kenyan tribes. Then, experience the wilderness at its best as you head through the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, one of Kenya’s most breathtaking, natural formations. Visit an internally displaced persons’ camp within the Rift Valley. Enjoy a meal with the residents, & spend some time getting to know the camp’s youth. Later today, bring compassion to the community by assisting with special projects that aid in producing income. Return to Nairobi for dinner & an overnight stay.    

Day 4: Nairobi

Although elephants grow to become very large mammals, at a young age they’re rather small – & cute! Enjoy a unique experience with the elephant “calves” at Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, a nursery providing care to young elephants & rhinos. Afterward, head for the AFEW Giraffe Center to feed the world’s tallest animal. Today’s excitement continues with the cultural show at Bomas of Kenya. And last but not least, the day ends with a delicious meal at one of Nairobi’s legendary restaurants. 

Day 5: Nairobi

Spend the day at one of the area’s local orphanages. Volunteer opportunities include teaching, PT assistance, & preparing food for the children.

Day 6: Nairobi

Learn about the plant species native to the area on a morning trek through one of Kenya’s indigenous forests. Next, take a tour of a tea farm, & attend a discussion on the history of Kenya’s tea production. Enjoy a colonial-style lunch on the farm before heading back to the hotel. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 7: Nairobi – Great Rift Valley – Nakuru

Journey into the Great Rift Valley to hike up Mount Longonot, a dormant volcano with an elevation of over 9,000 feet. Afterward, get ready for an afternoon filled with wild animals. Observe the wildlife that call Lake Nakuru National Park their home on an exciting game drive. Animals within the park include zebras, buffalos, lions, & giraffes. 

Day 8: Nakuru – Nairobi

Enjoy another opportunity to admire the wildlife of Lake Nakuru National Park before heading back to Nairobi. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 9: Nairobi – USA

Before transferring to the airport for your return flight home, enjoy time to shop for souvenirs & gifts at the Village Market.
