Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi

Arrive at the airport, & transfer to the hotel. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. Relax, or take a stroll through the historic Uhuru Gardens. Visit one of Nairobi’s vibrant markets, or observe the venomous Black Mamba & other cold-blooded creatures native to Africa at The Snake Park (activities time permitting).

Day 2: Nairobi

Enjoy a unique experience with the elephant “calves” at Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, a nursery providing care to young elephants and rhinos. Today’s wildlife excursion continues with the Rothschild giraffes at the AFEW Giraffe Center. Interact with these tall, spotted mammals at their level, & learn more about their endangerment as a subspecies. Explore the lovely Karen Blixen Museum, the former coffee plantation & home of the famous, belated author. Blixen’s compelling memoirs of her time spent living on this land are found in the celebrated novel “Out of Africa.” Enjoy a peaceful lunch at the estate before heading back towards the city. The return trip includes a Nairobi sightseeing tour and a stop at the Kazuri factory to see how the locals craft beautiful, beaded jewelry.

Day 3: Nairobi – Maasai Mara

Journey to the open plains of Maasai Mara this morning by air. Grab your binoculars as you exit the plane, & discover the roaming wildlife of this amazing national reserve on the way to the lodge. In addition to the hundreds of species of birds, the park is home to lions, zebras, cheetahs, rhinos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, elephants, & other small & large game. Relax & enjoy lunch at the lodge before an afternoon safari adventure.   

Day 4: Maasai Mara

The adventure continues today in the Maasai Mara National Reserve with more opportunities to observe & learn about East Africa’s wildlife.

Day 5: Maasai Mara

Enjoy another day of exciting game drives within the reserve. 

Day 6: Maasai Mara – Migori – Isebania – Serengeti

Get ready to discover wild & wonderful Tanzania, home to Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. In the morning, travel to Migori by air. Upon arrival, transfer to the Isebania station to cross the Kenya-Tanzania border (a boxed lunch will be provided). Next, head for Serengeti by air. Enjoy a game drive before dinner this evening.

Day 7: Serengeti

Learn about the Great Migration, the most spectacular event within the Serengeti, occurring on a yearly basis. Depending on the time of year, you may even get the opportunity to watch it in motion. You won’t be able to count the number of wildebeest crossing through the wide-open plains of Tanzania into the savannahs of Kenya. Experience the Serengeti on game drives today, & dine picnic-style under the warm African sun. 

Day 8: Serengeti

Spend another day with the animals inside Serengeti National Park. 

Day 9: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Travel to the prehistoric lands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to a large population of wildlife & features the world’s largest volcanic formation of its kind, the Ngorongoro Crater. Next, visit the Olduvai Gorge Museum. Highlights include model displays of human prints dating back about 3.6 million years ago. Boxed lunches are served before departure to the lodge. Spend the remainder of the day soaking up the sun, or choose from a variety of fun & exciting activities (pending availability).

Day 10: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Discover a world of its own, full of beauty & life: inside the walls of the Ngorongoro Crater. Here you can find thousands of animals wandering the plains or quenching their thirst from the crater’s watering hole, officially known as Lake Magadi. Hike back to the lodge after lunch, & spend the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 11: Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Lake Manyara

This safari adventure wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Lake Manyara, home to some of the brightest birds around the bush, flamingos! Inside Lake Manyara National Park you can also find zebras, blue monkeys, warthogs, tree-climbing lions, & other wildlife. Enjoy lunch upon arrival to tonight’s accommodation. Afterward, head for the park to experience one more amazing game drive in wild & wonderful East Africa! 

Day 12: Lake Manyara – Arusha – USA

Head for the city of Arusha this morning to explore lovely Tanzania once more before returning home. The visit in Arusha includes lunch & shopping. Upon arrival at the airport, board return flight to the USA.
