Overview
The nation of Kenya, known as one of the poorest on its continent, has an extremely high number of orphaned children & people suffering from AIDS. Opportunities to help make a difference in the lives of these individuals include a medical program, community renovation work, & an education program. Minimal recommended length of stay is 10 days.
Specialized Program: Medical
Volunteers can work under the supervision of medical professionals at a local hospital & public health centers in Limuru, Kenya.
Specialized Program: Education & Orphan Care
Volunteers can make a difference in the lives of children attending pre-schools, special education schools, & orphanages of Limuru, Mukuru, & Kyangombe by:
- Working with the local teachers/staff to develop creative lesson plans
- Implementing fun, educational activities into the children’s daily schedule
- Assisting with daily routines
Specialized Program: Community Work
Volunteers can help make a difference in a local community by:
- Helping renovate a local school & other buildings that need restoration
- Assisting with a local feeding program that reaches out to several hundred needy people
Optional Pre/Post-Project Tours
- Wonders of Ethiopia Tour – Spend three days in Ethiopia, visiting two of its popular destinations, Lalibela & Axum. You’ll see the incredible rocks churches in Lalibela, & in Axum, known as the legendary site of the Ark of the Covenant, you will find the ruins of the Queen of Sheba’s Palace.
- Addis Ababa Tour – Spend two days in Ethiopia’s capital city. Highlights of the tour include The National Museum of Ethiopia, the Entoto Mountains, St. George’s Cathedral, & the Merkato.
