Overview

Discover the farm life at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. This unique, cultural experience is one of many on this 9-day tour. You’ll also hike through the bush with the Maasai, & learn about their natural medicine traditions. Help build a water catchment so a community of Maasai can have fresh & sanitary drinking water. Observe nature in motion, up-close, as you canoe through Momella Lake. You can participate in a traditional goat grilling ceremony too. Itinerary

Day 1: Mount Kilimanjaro

Arrive at the airport, & transfer to a farm at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Here you’ll enjoy lunch, go on a hike in the nearby forest, take a brief tour of the farm, lend a hand with the afternoon farm duties, & enjoy fresh vegetables grown on the premises at dinner. 

Day 2: Mount Kilimanjaro

Learn how the farm runs on a daily basis during a full-day guided tour. Take a trip to a nearby lookout to see the sun set over Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. Return to the farm for dinner & an overnight stay. You may choose to take an optional tour today to observe the Black & White Colobus monkeys of the Simba River. 

Day 3: Mount Kilimanjaro – Arusha

Head to Arusha National Park this morning. Enjoy a safari game drive to see the park’s native fauna, which includes flamingos, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, & other wild mammals. You’ll reach Momella Lake later this morning, where you’ll exit the 4 x 4 & hop in a canoe to enjoy the wildlife from a different angle. Take a break for lunch, & continue to observe the wildlife afterward on another exciting game drive. Enjoy dinner & an overnight stay in Arusha. You may choose to hike Mount Meru today with a local guide (optional). 

Day 4: Arusha – Manyara Region

Travel to a Maasai community in Tanzania’s Manyara Region. One of the members will show you around upon your arrival. Afterward, you’ll have lunch with the Maasai natives, & sit in on a brief orientation about the service project. Before dinner, take a hike through the bush with a Maasai guide. You’ll be fascinated as you learn about the natural species of plants that the community uses for medicinal purposes. 

Day 5: Manyara Region

Get excited as you start your project today, knowing that you are helping to provide a fresh water supply for a Maasai community. Activities necessary to build a water catchment include designing its build & function & digging pipelines. 

Day 6: Manyara Region

Finish your water catchment project today. This evening, enjoy dinner with the community by the campfire. You may choose to participate in a traditional goat slaughtering & grilling ceremony with the Maasai natives for dinner (optional).

Day 7: Manyara Region

Spend the day learning skills to live & survive in the wilderness. Rest your head upon the Earth this evening, under the stars of the African sky. You may choose to return to your previous accommodation for an overnight stay instead. 

Day 8: Manyara Region – Tarangire National Park – Arusha

Enjoy a full-day safari game drive inside Tarangire National Park. The park is home to gazelles, baobab trees, elephants, & other wildlife. Return to Arusha afterward for dinner & an overnight stay. 

Day 9: Arusha – USA

Tour the Cultural Heritage Center this morning (optional). Transfer to the airport later today, & board your return flight home.
