Overview

Almost 500 years have passed since Martin Luther rose to lead the great movement known as the Reformation. This eight day tour invites you to walk in Luther's footsteps, from the time of his birth, throughout his life’s calling, to his passing in the mid-16th century. You’ll be sure to find inspiration as you visit many historic sites across the cities & towns of Germany.

Itinerary

Day 1: Berlin

Arrive at the airport, & transfer to the hotel. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 2: Berlin – Wittenberg – Torgau – Leipzig

Head to Wittenberg this morning. Visit All Saints’ Church, believed to be where Martin Luther posted the Ninety-Five Theses in the year 1517. Explore the Luther House museum, which once served as Luther’s residence. Before leaving the city, visit the Melanchthon House, where Luther’s fellow reformer Philipp Melanchthon lived. Transfer to Torgau, & enjoy lunch upon arrival. Visit the Katharina Luther Museum, & climb the famous spiral staircase inside Hartenfels Castle. Travel to Leipzig for dinner & an overnight stay. 

Day 3: Leipzig – Eisleben – Mansfeld – Erfurt

Take a guided tour of Leipzig this morning. Highlights include the Gewandhaus concert hall, the Leipzig History Museum, St. Nicholas Church, & St. Thomas Church, whose former workers include renowned composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, & travel to Eisleben afterward. Visit the house where Luther was born, the church where he was baptized, & the church where he gave his last sermon. Other sightseeing highlights in Eisleben include the Luther memorial. Travel to Mansfeld, where Luther lived before the Reformation began, during his childhood. See the Town Hall, the Castle, & the Luther memorial. Head to Erfurt for dinner & an overnight stay. 

Day 4: Erfurt – Eisenach

In the morning, enjoy a guided tour of Erfurt. Visit St. Mary’s Cathedral & St. Augustine’s Monastery, where Luther resided while in Erfurt. After lunch, head to Eisenach. Visit the Medieval UNESCO World Heritage Site, Wartburg Castle. The Castle is renowned as the place where Luther translated part of the Bible. Enjoy dinner & an overnight stay in Eisenach. 

Day 5: Eisenach – Mainz – Worms

Leave for Mainz after breakfast. Learn about Luther’s opposition to the selling of indulgences during your guided tour of the city. Visit Mainz Cathedral, well-known for its old age of 1,000 years old. After the tour, travel to Worms, where the Diet of Worms was held. Check in to the hotel, & spend the remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 6: Worms – Nuremberg

Take a guided tour of Worms this morning. See the Luther memorial, & visit Trinity Church & the Worms Cathedral. Head to Nuremberg later today where you’ll enjoy time of leisure, dinner & an overnight stay. 

Day 7: Nuremberg – Coburg – Berlin

Begin the day with a visit to the medieval Imperial Castle. Next you will see the inside of the famous Renaissance artist Albrecht Durer’s House. Explore the Germanisches National Museum. Other highlights of the morning tour include visits to St. Lorenz Church & St. Sebaldus Church. Next, head to Coburg to visit Callenberg Castle, St. Moriz Church, & Veste Coburg, another residence of Luther during the Reformation period. Later today, return to Berlin. Enjoy a farewell dinner this evening.

Day 8: Berlin – USA

Transfer to the airport, & return flight home.
