Conservation Efforts

Moon Palace Resort is dedicated to achieving Neutral Tourism, eliminating their carbon footprint through their sustainability & conservation work at the Moon Palace Private Reserve. In between hiking, water sports & time at the spa, your family could participate in releasing some of the conservation program's next million sea turtle babies.

Community Programs

Zoëtry Montego Bay has forged a partnership with the Baracks Road Primary School in Montego Bay refurbishing bathrooms, helping with other needed projects & facilitating guest visits to bring gifts to the children. They also run a pesticide-free greenhouse garden & have reduced our diesel consumption by more than 40%.

Sustainabilty Practices

Secrets Wild Orchid & St. James Montego Bay strive to prevent/reduce waste & minimize their impact on the environment through good engineering practices. Their outreach includes
enhancing & beautifying schools, children’s homes, infirmaries, shoreline & beach cleanups, plus support of local economic development.

About the Area

Jamaica, a Caribbean Island nation, has a lush topography of mountains, rainforests and reef-lined beaches. Many of its all-inclusive resorts are gathered in Montego Bay, with its British-colonial architecture, and Negril, known for its diving and snorkeling sites. Jamaica is famed as the birthplace of reggae music.

The official language is English, which is "used in all domains of public life", including the government, the legal system, the media, and education. However, the primary spoken language is an English-based creole called Jamaican Patois (or Patwa).

There are holiday home rentals in the area but be warned you may be targeted for theft if you do not choose to stay in inclusive resorts with security.

The official currency of Jamaica is the Jamaican dollar, or J$, but US dollars are also widely accepted. In big resort areas, you can usually get by with USD.
